Plywood Cutout Games

Plywood cutout games are made for family picnics, carnivals and large gatherings. You can buy some of the games built by local craftsmen or you can build your own. The games require simple bean bags or a football or baseball. One of the attractions of plywood cutout games is that any age group can play the games. You can change the rules to compensate for the age of the players, making the rules simpler for younger kids and more complicated for the older ones.

Cornhole
- Cornhole is a popular plywood cutout game with personalized bean bags and playing boards available from many locations. The board measures 24 inches wide by 48 inches long and has a 6-inch hole cut 9 inches from the top of the board and directly in the middle of either side. The game is played with 6-inch square beanbags filled with 2 cups of dried corn. Patterns for making your own cornhole game are available on the American Cornhole Association website.
Bean Bag Toss
- Bean bag toss is a large version of tic-tac-toe. Each person or team has seven bean bags made from the same color material. The opposing player or team has just as many bean bags in a different color. The playing field is a plywood board that measures 24 inches square. Cut out nine holes of the same size in the plywood square. Paint the square in the desired colors. The rules are just like tic-tac-toe; the first person with three bean bags in a row wins the game.
Billboard Football
- You need a football and a painted 4-by-8-foot sheet of plywood to play billboard football. Use a pencil to measure out 16 squares, each measuring 1-by-2 feet. Use these squares to place nine holes. The smallest hole is labeled "Touchdown" and the largest hole is labeled "Interception." Four holes, evenly spaced around the board, are labeled "1st Down," "2nd Down," "3rd Down" and "4th Down." Label three more holes "Field Goal," "Fumble" and "Incomplete." Throw the football through the holes to play the game and score just as you would in a regular football game. For a quick scrimmage, have the players line up and take turns throwing the ball. The player with the most touchdowns wins.
Baseball Toss
- A plywood cutout game with a baseball theme is played as a team sport or as an individual competition. The board must have four holes representing the bases on a baseball diamond. Other holes representing a foul ball, strike or an out are cut from the plywood. A small hole, just slightly larger than the baseball, represents a home run. You can score the game any way you choose for the baseball toss game.

Games
