Cub Scout Games for 4th & 5th Grade

The Boy Scouts of America teaches young boys how to do their best and help others. When planning meetings or gatherings for Webelos, which are fourth and fifth grade boy scouts, you can create a variety of games to keep the boys entertained. Games help the young boys build social skills and make new friends.
  1. Balloon Games

    • Write things like, "Recite the Cub Scout Promise," "What are Webelos rank requirements" and "Name some of the Cub Scout values?" on slips of paper. Inflate several balloons and insert one slip of paper in each balloon. Have the boys sit in a circle and hand one boy a balloon. Tell the boys to pass the balloon around the circle. When you blow a whistle, the boy holding the balloon must take it to the middle of the circle. He has to sit on the balloon to pop it, get out the slip of paper and answer the question on the paper. Award a point for each correct answer, and the boy with the most correct answers wins the game. For a variation, play the game in teams. The teams can hit the balloon back and forth to one another. The team holding the balloon when the whistle blows has a chance to answer the question and earn a point.

    Relay Races

    • Create an octopus relay race by dividing the boys into teams of two, three or four. Mark a starting line and finish line 30 feet apart. Each team must stand with their backs facing in and interlock elbows. When you say "Race," the boys must race to the finish line without letting go of each other's elbows. The first team across the finish line wins the race. Other relay race ideas include bear crawling (bottom in the air on all fours), crab walking (bottom facing the ground on all fours), running backwards and sack races.

    Scout Hat Games

    • Play an easy scout hat game by having the boys sit in a circle. Tell the boys to pass the hat around the circle, taking turns putting it on. When the whistle blows, the player with the hat is out of the game. Eliminate a player each round and the last player remaining in the game wins. For another hat game, divide the boys into two teams. Have each team form a straight line and stand facing each other 15 feet apart. Place a scout hat in the middle and select two players at a time. The two players must race to the hat to get it and bring it back to his team. The player who gets the scout back to his team earns a point. The team with the most points wins the game.

    Beach Ball Games

    • Divide the boys into teams of four or five. Give each team a beach ball and have them practice hitting the ball in the air. They must try to keep the ball from touching the ground and no player can hit the ball twice in a row. The team who keeps the ball in the air the longest amount of time wins the game. For another beach ball game, play a game of baseball. The boys can use their arm and hand as a bat and the beach ball as the baseball. The team with the most points after five innings wins the game.
