Rubik's Cube Instructions for Beginners

The Rubik's Cube is a three-dimensional puzzle toy that was invented in 1974 by a Hungarian sculptor named Erno Rubik. Hundreds of millions of Rubik's Cubes have been sold around the world. The cubes provide challenging entertainment to people who try to solve them. The original cube was set in a three-by-three square pattern with six faces having nine different colored squares on each. Today, smaller cubes made of two-by-two square faces are helpful for those learning how to solve Rubik's Cube puzzles.

Instructions

    • 1

Understand that the objective of the game is to try to move the colored squares so each cube face is comprised of a single color.

    • 2

Choose a color, such as white because it's easy to locate, to start lining up first. Move the pieces of the cube, understanding that pieces move in rows by turning around a center screw, until one of the corner squares is white. Continuing turning pieces until an entire cube face, or "layer" is white.

    • 3

Turn pieces vertically and horizontally until a second face is an entire color, such as yellow or green. Continue turning pieces until the faces are entirely, white, red, green, orange, yellow and blue, respectively.

    • 4

Learn how to solve a Rubik's Cube faster by gaining knowledge about the mathematical algorithms and corresponding symbols used to solve Rubik's Cubes. Re-scramble the cube after solving it into a different pattern than what you started with and solve it again. Continue scrambling and solving with different starting patterns and watch as your speed increases. Move on to the three by three Rubik's Cube once you gain thorough confidence with the Rubik's Mini Cube.
