Online Strawberry Games
Strawberryville is one example of a website that uses strawberry games to teach kids. Put on California Strawberry Kids, it features trivia facts and interactive games for kids ages five to 12. The website also features downloads and a parent/teacher section for more learning and fun.
Strawberry Shortcake also is an interactive website featuring activities and games. These include a berry collection game, a bake-off, a fashions boutique, and a strawberry dance to memorize. All games are strawberry themed and simple enough for young elementary schoolers.
Board Games
Nothing beats a good old-fashioned game you can touch and interact with, which has inspired the Strawberries in a Basket game. A counting game for three- to six-year-olds, it's available at game and learning stores. Children roll a die, count out the corresponding number of strawberries, and fill their basket. The first with 10 strawberries wins.
Other games include a Strawberry Shortcake memory game, and Strawberry Bingo, where strawberries are simply used as markers for the bingo board.
Outdoor Fun
Children love to be outdoors, and what better way to instill the importance of healthy eating than combining it with physical fitness? Check with your local strawberry orchard or farm for tours or special days that often include games for kids. These will sometimes be traditional carnival games set amidst strawberry fields, or they may be strawberry themed, such as a coloring contest or picking race. You can also bring strawberries into your own backyard and form a relay race or scavenger hunt using the strawberries.
Baking &Eating
A strawberry game can sometimes end in a sweet treat. Find a simple strawberry dessert recipe, and challenge your child to use his counting and measuring skills to assist with the preparation process. Or, in the summer, bring a strawberry eating contest to your family reunion, 4th of July picnic, or any other event where a lot of older kids and teens will be in attendance.
