How to Store Marbles

Marbles are more than just pieces used to play a game. They are also collector's items, and some are worth a considerable amount of money. Simply tossing your marbles in a bowl or similar container when they are not being used is not recommended, as doing so can cause scratches and chips. Such damage prevents marbles from rolling as they should, and also decreases their overall value. You can prevent this kind of damage by using a proper storage method.

      Clean the marbles before storing them. Place the marbles gently in a large bowl. Fill the bowl with warm water. Drop in two or three denture tablets. Soak the marbles for roughly 30 minutes. Rinse them thoroughly with lukewarm water and dry them completely with a soft cloth or towel.

      Open the marble case. Place the marbles securely in the slots inside the case. Use one slot for each marble to avoid the marbles colliding with one another, which causes chips and scratches.

      Close the case securely. Keep the case fully closed when the marbles aren't in use to keep dust and dirt from accumulating on them.

      Keep the case upright at all times, even if using a "briefcase" case that encloses the marbles. This prevents the marbles from falling out of their slots and banging into each other.

      Store the marbles at room temperature. Extreme hot or cold temperatures warp the marbles, lessening their overall value.
