American Mahjong Instructions

Know the objective of the American mahjong game. The game aims to make sets of tiles of the same kind. The set can be made up of two to six tiles of the same kind. The sets of tiles of the same kind will then be removed from the player's row, and then put one tile in the middle. The player who succeeds in getting rid of all of his tiles wins.

Get players for the game. American mahjong can be played by a minimum of two players and a maximum of four players.

Decide who will go first. Allow each player to roll the dice. The player with the highest roll goes first. followed by the second highest, the third highest, and finally, the player with the lowest roll.

Have the players draw tiles and arrange them. Turn down all the tiles, and then have each player pick 38 tiles each. Each player must then arrange his/her tiles in one long row with 19 tiles. The remaining other 19 tiles should be stacked over the first 19 tiles in order to have a stack of two tiles. The end of each player's row should meet with the end of the other player's row thus forming a square.

Begin the mahjong game. Have the first player roll the dice. Depending on the number that appeared during the roll, the player will count his tiles in his row, starting from left and going to the right. He will then take four tiles to the left of the corresponding rolled tile. Roll the dice again and repeat the process, so a player will have to roll the dice two times. Have the other players do the same.

Swap tiles with the other players. Players can talk with each other and swap tiles with one other player during their turn. However, a joker tile is not allowed to be swapped.

Make sets of tiles of the same kind. A player can pick up discarded tiles in the middle if it will help him to create a set. Continue making sets with your tiles. Swap tiles with the other players if needed.

Determine the winner of the game. The player who was able to discard all of his tiles by making sets wins the game.
