Lei Making Contest
Set up a table with several lei-making supplies, such as elastic, string, real flowers, fake flowers, glitter and cut up pieces of straws for guest to place between the flowers. Give the party guests 20 minutes to make their very own Hawaiian lei. Award a prize to the party guest who has the best, most creative and unique leis.
Toss the Leis
Blow up a large inflatable palm tree or flamingo and place it in the backyard or in the middle of party area. Mark a standing line about 10 feet away, adjust depending on ages of players, and have players line up at the line. Each player tries to toss five leis on the palm fronds or around the flamingo's neck. The player who rings the most leis wins the game.
Winning Lei
Take a large box of leis and mark a black dot on one of the flowers with a permanent marker. As guests arrive, give each guest a flower lei. During the event, tell the guests to look at their leis for a black dot. The guest who has the lei with the black dot wins a prize to take home.
Lei Sand Dig
For younger guests, fill two large swimming pools with play sand and hide the same amount of plastic party leis in each pool. Have two players stand in front of the pool. When you say "Go," the two players must dig through the sand to find the leis. The first player to find three leis wins the game. For added fun, have the players take their shoes and socks off to use only their feet to find the leis.
Lei Relay Race
Mark a starting line and finish line about 25 feet apart. Divide the players into two teams and place a table at the finish line. Place two stacks of 20 leis on the table. Have all the players line up at the starting line. When you say "Race," the first two players in each team line must race to the table, put on a lei each and run back. Each player must hand the lei to the next player in his team line, who must put it on, run to the table and put on another lei. Each player must put on all the leis from the teammate in front of him, run to the finish line, add another lei and run back. The first team to finish the race, having all 20 leis around the last player's neck, wins the game.
