Fun Games for Troubled Children

Due to a number of unfortunate circumstances, there are many troubled children who need help and direction. There are also homeless teens, runaways, orphans, foster children and abused children. One way they can be influenced to help get their lives back on track is through fun games, which boost their spirits and stimulate their brains.
  1. Artistic Games

    • Art games can provide self-expression and empower troubled children.

There are several fun games that give troubled children an outlet for their anxieties and allow self- expression. Supplying them with art supplies and letting them create graffiti art on designated walls or paper can be very therapeutic. One art game is Pictionary, where children draw instead of speaking. Games that help to express creativity such as with clay, watercolors, or other materials can help troubled youth.

    Physical Games

    • Children can improve in mood and health by being involved in physical games and activities.

Children often spend much of their time in front of the TV, on the computer or playing electronic games. This contributes to obesity and depression. Children will be healthier and in a better mood if they are physically active. Games such as bowling, tennis, basketball, swimming, skating, or baseball can help improve coordination, endurance, strength and overall health.

    Self-regulation Games

    • Children can learn self-regulation through some fun games.

Some games teach children to control their impulses and behavior. According to Megan McClellan, an associate professor at Oregon State University, studies show that playing games like Simon Says and Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes help children to self-regulate. Improvement in this area has been shown to increase academic performance. Because of these games, children learn how to pay attention, listen to directions better, and think before they act.

    Social Behavior Games

    • Blindfold games can help teach children social behavior skills.

Many children need help with social interaction. Playing card games will help them learn proper rules and social etiquette. They can learn to play fair, how to be patient and wait their turn, what is inappropriate behavior and how to win and lose graciously. Other social skills games include Charades, Follow the Leader, and the blindfolded walk, where children take turns being the leader and then reverse their roles.
