Hold the bobby pin vertically, so the open portion of the bobby pin is facing the ceiling.
Place your thumb on the straight prong of the bobby pin, approximately one-quarter of the length of the prong above the bottom of the pin.
Grip the top of the straight prong and bend it down over your thumb, so that the prong is at a 90 degree angle. Remove your thumb once the bobby pin is bent.
Bend the bent prong down and then back up the other side. The prong is again at a 90 degree angle, only facing the opposite direction. A loop is formed when the bobby pin is bent in this manner.
Pull up on the bent prong and rest the head of the prong on the ridged prong. The bobby pin is now ready to snap.
Hold the bobby pin by the head of the ridged prong with the loop facing down.
Tap the loop on a table to release the bent pin and make a loud snapping noise. You can also drop the bobby pin so that the loop touches a hard surface and pops into the air.
