How to Cash a Georgia Lottery Check

The Georgia Lottery features scores of instant-winner scratch-off games and daily and weekly number-drawing games. If you find yourself with a winning ticket, no matter the game you played, you can collect your winning check from a designated office. Cashing that check at your local bank will ensure the money gets securely into your hands, and doing so is basically the same as cashing any other check. However, there is some paperwork you should have with you.

  Visit any lottery retailer or district office to pick up a claim form as soon as you realize you have a winning ticket. Fill out this form and send it to the Georgia Lottery Corp. at P.O. Box 56966, Atlanta, GA 30343. The Georgia Lottery Corp. will send your winning check to the address you provide. You also can personally turn in a winning ticket of more than $600 for certification and payment at any of the nine district offices around the state.

  Take the lottery check to your local bank and endorse the back of the check by signing it with your name. Provide the bank with your personal ID, in some cases the bank will ask for two, and let the teller know you want to cash the check, not deposit it.

  Keep a photocopy of your winning lottery ticket, claim form and check in a file at your home in case there are any complications with cashing your check and you need the paperwork to prove the validity of your claim.
