Snow Activities With Kids

A single snowstorm can drop up to 40 million tons of snow, according to the FunShun website. There is nothing like having exciting activities when there is snow on the ground, as this tends to bring out the child in all of us. Let your children enjoy this winter wonderland by pouring them some hot chocolate and allowing them to play in the snow.
  1. Ice Snow Molds

    • Give you children several cake pans, bundt pans and cookie cutters to use in the snow. Children can make ice castles using the pans. Have a castle-building contest to see who can build the largest snow castle using the baking pans.

    Snow Ice Cream

    • Send your kids outside and get a large bowl of clean snow. Bring the snow in the kitchen and add cream, sugar and vanilla to the snow. Add a little of each ingredient until desired taste is achieved. Kids can add toppings such as M&Ms, peppermint and chocolate syrup.

    Scavenger Ice Hunt

    • Freeze ice cubes with different-colored food colorings to make colorful ice cubes. Hide the ice cubes in the snow and let the children have a scavenger hunt looking for the colored ice cubes. The child who finds the most colored ice cubes wins the game.

    Water Bottle Art

    • Fill several water bottles with water and food coloring. Give the children the water bottles and let them color in the snow. Write the color on each bottle so the children will know what color they are using. Let all the children work together to create one large picture in the snow.

    Candy Snowman

    • Let your kids make a candy snowman in the yard. They first build a snowman and then take items such as candy necklaces, lollipops, candy canes, licorice and gummies to decorate it.

    Igloo

    • Make an igloo in the snow using a large plywood box or hard-covered box. The box must be large enough for the kids to crawl inside with a little room. Place the box in the middle of the yard and have the kids build snow up around the box. They must cover the box completely only leaving the front entrance open. Take a stick and draw squares on the igloo. Make a sign that says, "_________'s Igloo."

    Tubing

    • If you have hills around your home, let the children ride tubes down the hills in the snow. Use air-inflated tubes you would take to the beach. You can also use sleds, cardboard boxes and other air-inflated items.
