Algebra Factoring Games

A complex subject like algebra factoring isn't going to be every student's favorite math topic. Thankfully, algebra factoring games--available both for classroom use and online--are designed to help reinforce what math students know about algebra factoring in an entertaining fashion, ensuring pupils are attentive while learning. The online games play through a user's Web browser, and are typically available for free.
  1. Factoring Bingo

    • This algebra factoring game is designed for play in a school classroom, under the supervision of a teacher who will prepare the game beforehand. Before beginning the game, the teacher will need to have created a number of algebra factoring questions--probably around thirty or forty. These form the teacher's call sheet, which she'll refer to during the game. Next, the teacher should prepare bingo cards for each student in the class. These should contain a number of grids--teachers will probably want either 16 or 20--each of which contains an answer to the algebra factoring questions found on the call sheet.

During the game, the teacher reads a random question from the call sheet and writes it on the blackboard or on another suitable material. The students then have a short amount of time in which to solve the question; if the answer is on their bingo cards, they can then mark it off. Play continues either until a student has a complete line of marked grids--either horizontally, vertically or diagonally--or, if preferred, until a student completes his bingo card.

    Rags To Riches

    • This simple quiz game is based on the design from the popular "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" television series. Players must answer algebra factoring and equation questions to work their way up the money ladder shown on the right-hand side of the screen. The more questions a player answers, the more game money she'll get. Each factoring question offers the player four answers; if the player answers incorrectly, it's game over and the player has to start again. The player receives three hints, which will help her out on tricky questions if clicked.

    Cutout Factoring

    • This algebra game is available for download as a PDF for free. A teacher can print and photocopy the game sheet for use in the classroom, or individuals can download the game to complete at home. To play, students must cut out each square on the game sheet, each of which contains two expressions and two factored forms, one per side of each square. The player must then assemble the pieces back together so each expression and each factored form matches up.
