Games for Memory Recall

Your brain has a lot in common with your muscles. Give it some exercises to do and it will function well, but if you don't use it your brain can become lazy. Help your memory to work at its peak and be better able to recall information by playing memory games as often as possible.
  1. Concentration

    • The game of concentration is a card game kids and adults have enjoyed for years. It can be played as a solitaire game or by multiple players. To play, shuffle the cards then deal out the entire deck, face down, in about eight rows and six or seven columns. Turn over any two cards. If they match (such as both are aces or both are queens), remove them from the game. If they don't match, turn them face down again, leaving each of them in the same spot. For the next turn, reveal another pair of cards, and continue looking for matches. Your memory comes into play when you reveal a card and it matches one you have seen previously. You have to concentrate to remember where that card was so you can match it to the one you have just revealed.

The Internet has many online versions of this game, which follow the same rules. They provide the same workout for your memory as the original game.

    Simon

    • Simon (sometimes called Simon Says) is an online game that is easy enough for anybody to do at first, but quickly becomes more complicated. Simon's game board is a circle divided into quadrants, each one a different color. The game begins by flashing a single light and playing the tone which accompanies that particular light. You must repeat the exact sequence of lights/tones in order to progress. Each time you respond correctly another light is added to the chain, and the entire sequence must be repeated, until finally you miss one.

    Metro Match

    • Metro Match is similar to concentration, but this game uses online picture tiles instead of playing cards. There are three different game boards. Each one consists of 20 tiles which have 10 different pictures of New York, Paris or London. Click on any two tiles to reveal the hidden pictures. If they match, those tiles disappear from the game, but if they don't match they flip back over and you can try two more. Continue searching for matches in this fashion until you have matched all the tiles from each of the different cities. You can play each city as many times as you like, as the order of the tiles is changed every time you play.
