How to Play Hand-Held Boggle

Boggle is a game similar to Scrabble in which players must form words from chains of letters within a time limit. In this game of words, it helps to have an extensive vocabulary--or a good dictionary and the ability to read rapidly. The game can be played by two to six players and is recommended for age 8 and above.

Drop the letter cubes into the dome of the game. Place the yellow cube tray over the dome, with the grid side down. Turn the dome right-side up and shake the cubes until each cube falls into place in the grid. Start the timer as the dome is removed from the grid.

    • 2

Find words from the assortment of letters. Letters may form words, horizontally, vertically, diagonally, to the left, right, up or down. They must be in the proper sequence to form a word. Players have three minutes to form and write down as many words as possible.

    • 3

Read out your words and calculate the score. Three- and four-letter words score one point, five-letter words score two points, six-letter words three points, seven-letter words five points and eight-letter words and above are worth 11 points. Any word that appears on more than one player's list must be crossed off all lists.

Win the game by being the first player to reach a predetermined number of points.
