Spaceship Math Games

Motivating kids to practice their math skills can be a difficult task---why would kids want to study when there are fun games to play? Parents and educators can help motivate children by using these exciting spaceship games that incorporate math skills with engaging graphics and adventures. All of these games can be played online and are free of charge.
  1. Multiflyer

    • In this game, kids can practice their multiplication skills while flying their spaceship to various destinations such as the moon and other planets. Players are presented with a multiplication problem on their screen and must type in the answer correctly in order to find the correct coordinate for their spaceship. If players are unsure of the answer, they can use the on-screen grid space to search for the answer. For every answer players solve without using the grid, they earn memory upgrades that increase their score. Once players have entered in all of the coordinates for that mission, they can fly to the location and learn more about the destination. Players can select the easy, medium or hard levels of the game and also have the option to turn the multiplication grid off. This game can be played at brainormous.com.

    Learning Planet Math Games

    • LearningPlanet.com has a student section where various spaceship math games can be found for kids of all ages and skill levels. In the 1st through 3rd grade section, kids will find SpaceyMath, a game that tests their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills. Players must enter in the correct answer to math problems in this game in order to power their space station. In the 7th grade-and-up section, players can try Lunar Adventure, where they must neutralize asteroids to earn money and upgrade their spaceship. Players must use their graphing skills to select the correct coordinates and then navigate their ship through the asteroids.

    Free &Online Kids Math Games

    • At this website (see Resources section), students can find dozens of math games to play that involve spaceships, aliens and UFOs. The list of games can be sorted by skill (angles, fractions, rounding numbers, percentages and more) and players can read descriptions of each game before selecting one. Rounding Spaceships, for example, is a game where players are asked to round a number and must select the spaceship with the correct answer. Ratio Blaster is another spaceship game where players must match a given ratio to the correct fraction by blasting the spaceship with the right answer. Educators can also use this website to create a lesson plan for students by selecting various games from the list and clicking the 'Preview Lesson' at the top of the page. The website will provide educators with a link to only those games, and educators can provide this link to students to help them practice specific skills.

    Planet Hop

    • This game (see Resources) tests students' graphing abilities. Players must use coordinates to either enter the location of a planet or find the planet on the grid using existing coordinates. After graphing all of the planets, players must enter the equation of the horizontal or vertical line they have created. There are three different levels to this game and after each level players earn printable prizes.
