Fun Games to Play With Little Kids

Children have short attention spans and high levels of energy. Getting their attention and keeping it requires fun games they can perform easily with simple directions to follow. Games that allow the children to run are popular because they stimulate the child's need to be active. Games with music are also fun. Fun games will keep children entertained and are a great way to spend quality time at family gatherings and birthday parties.
  1. Duck Duck Goose

    • Duck Duck Goose is a fun running game for small children and can be played indoors and outdoors. The game consists of the children sitting facing each other in a circle. One child stays out of the circle and acts as the picker. The children sitting in the circle are required to close their eyes, while the one picker goes around the circle lightly tapping each child on the head and saying duck. The picker can go around the circle as many times as they choose before hollering goose. When the child sitting in the circle gets chosen, they have to quickly jump up and chase the picker around the circle before he or she is able to sit in the empty space. If the picker is tagged, they remain the picker for the next round. If the picker is able to get in the circle and sit down, then the next child takes their turn as the picker. The game goes on until everyone has had a chance to be a picker.

    Musical Chairs

    • Arrange chairs in a line, back to back, with each chair facing the opposite direction. The number of chairs should be one less than the number of players. One person should be designated to control the music. The children walk around the chairs in a circle while the music is playing. Once the music stops, the children have to rush and try to get a seat in a chair. Since there is one chair less than that of the number of children, one child will be left without a seat. The child with no seat is out of the game. The rest of the children stand up and another chair is removed from the game. The game continues until there are only two children left and one chair. A prize can be given for the winner of the game. This game can be played indoors and outdoors.

    Red Light Green Light

    • Red Light Green Light is a fun outdoor game. One child is chosen to be red light and stands at a distance from the other children with his/her back turned and eyes closed. The other children line up in a straight line and can't move unless the person designated red light says green light. Kids run toward the red light when green light is spoken. If the children hear red light, they have to stop running. If the red light person sees anyone moving after red light is yelled, those players have to return to the starting line. Whichever child is able to move fast enough and be the first one to touch the shoulder of the red light wins and replaces them.
