Holiday Paper Games

Holidays bring countless creative opportunities for children to play games using paper. Bring out colored paper and crayons to play games at Christmas, Halloween and Easter. Engage children by challenging them to draw pictures with their eyes closed. Combine entertainment and education with word games. Indulge children's creative sides with drawing games they can share with each other. A happy aspect of holiday paper games: You can adapt them to any holiday. Just change the pictures and words.
  1. Frosty the Snowman Drawing Game

    • Draw Frosty the Snowman blindfolded.

Christmas paper games invite children to laugh while competing for holiday prizes. Gather up drawing or construction paper in Christmas colors and crayons. Give each child a standard size sheet of paper and a crayon. Tell the kids they are going to draw a Christmas picture, but you aren't going to tell them what the picture is. Then tell them they have to draw the picture with their eyes closed. When the children have closed their eyes, ask them to draw three circles. Each circle should be smaller than the first and sit on top of each other, the largest circle on the bottom. Ask the kids to draw three small circles inside the middle circle, lined up vertically. Ask the children to draw eyes, a carrot nose and a mouth in the top circle. Instruct the kids to draw a hat on the top circle, stick arms from the sides of the middle circle and a broom in one "hand." Tell everyone to open their eyes and see what they drew. Hang up all the pictures for the children to see. Every child wins a Christmas cellophane-wrapped brownie. Play "Frosty the Snowman" as the children play.

    Halloween Hangman

    • Play a challenging and entertaining Halloween paper game.

Paper and crayons make this game colorful. Each child gets a piece of paper. Place tubs of crayons in Halloween colors around the table. Ask the kids to create a Halloween Hangman puzzle, using Halloween words. Give each child a smaller piece of paper to write down their puzzle words. Have them pass the words to you so you can check their spelling before the game begins. Each child will keep this piece of paper. Kids draw a line for each letter of their puzzle, and they can draw Halloween pictures around their hangman puzzles. Ask the children to form a circle and pair up with the child to their right. Pairs exchange Hangman puzzles and take turns trying to solve them. Puzzle solvers write the letters on the lines. The game is played like regular hangman. Every child wins a Halloween-colored popcorn ball.

    Easter Tracing Game

    • Employ Easter images for a holiday coloring game.

Children enjoy drawing pictures. They also get a kick out of challenging their peers. Bring those two features together for an Easter paper game. Give each child a piece of tracing paper. Place crayons and pages from Easter coloring books or prints from the Internet around the table. Use secular, religious or a combination of images. Tell the kids they can select any picture and they should not let their neighbors see their pages. Ask the children to place the coloring page under their tracing paper. Tell them to trace the pictures with dashes, not complete lines. When the kids finish drawing, tell them to pass their tracing pages two seats to the right. Then ask the children to fill in the lines to see what images they received.
