Fun Games to Play Through Text

According to MSNBC, the average teen sends over 2,000 text messages a month. But teens aren't the only ones who text and although many cell phones now allow for video games and other forms of entertainment, you may want to try text-message games with your friends when you're waiting for an appointment or are bored at home.
  1. Build-a-Title

    • Build a title is a game played with two or more people with titles of movies, TV shows or books. For example, if the first movie said is “Iron Man,” the next person would have to name a movie beginning with the word “man” or ending with the word “iron.” The game keeps going until no one can think of another title to fit at the end or beginning of the stream. Whoever comes up with the last title wins.

    Name Game

    • The name game works similarly to build-a-title, except players don’t actually have to connect the names. One person will simply name a famous person, such as “Tom Cruise.” The next person has to then think of a famous person whose name begins with the letter “e” because it’s the last letter in Tom Cruise’s name. The game may last a long time and ends when no new famous names can be thought of. The game ends quickly if someone thinks of names ending with “x,” “q” or “z.” This can be done with band names or any other names, also.

    Guess the Object

    • If your cell phone has a camera, use it for a text-message game of “guess the object,” which is when one person takes a picture of something from very close up and texts it to another person who has to guess what the item in the picture is. The more abstract the picture, the more challenging the game becomes.

    Truth or Dare

    • Playing truth or dare over the phone via text works similarly to when playing the game in person. Text your friend “truth or dare.” Your friend will text back one of the two options. If truth is selected, simply text back a question and wait for the answer. If dare is selected, text the dare and tell your friend to include a picture as proof with the next text.
