Official Rules for the Game UNO

The card game Uno is simple to learn and can be played by many people. There are a few rules that can be quickly learned. In no time, you will be able to confidently play this game.
  1. Objective

    • The object of Uno is to be the first person to 500 points. Points are scored by you by losing all your cards first and the cards the other players hold.

    Cards

    • There are 108 cards in all in an Uno deck. Blue, green, red and yellow cards are numbered 0 to 9. Eight "Draw Two" cards, "Reverse" cards and "Skip" cards also are included. When the "Draw Two" card is picked up, the next player must draw two cards and loses a turn. The "Reverse" card changes the movement of turns--if the players had been taking turns going clockwise, then the turns will be taken counterclockwise. "Skip" cards make the next person lose the next turn. "Wild" cards allow the person whose turn it is to decide what color the cards in play will be. The "Wild Draw Four Cards" allow the player who drew the card to change the color and the next person to take a turn must draw four cards.

    Playing

    • To start the game, everyone picks a card and the highest card goes first. Action cards count as zero. Play continues clockwise from there. Shuffle the cards and deal each player seven cards. Put the rest of the deck so it is facing down. Turn the top card over and place it next to the pile. This will be the discard pile. Then the first player must put down a card of that color or a card of the same number on the discard pile. If the player does not have a playable card, she must draw one from the deck. If it can be played, the player can lay it down; if not, then play will continue to the next person.

    Scores

    • A player gets points by going out and tallying up the cards that are left in the other players' hands. Number cards are worth the amount on the card, "Draw Two," "Reverse," and "Skip" cards are worth 20 points. "Wild" and "Wild Draw Four" cards are worth 50 points.

    Going Out and Winning

    • A player must yell "Uno" when he has one card left--if he doesn't and is caught by another player, he must draw two cards. Once a person is out of cards, the round will end. If one of the last cards is a "Draw Two" or "Wild Draw Four," then the following player has to do that. If the draw pile runs out, then reshuffle and keep playing until someone goes out.
