Real Heroes: Firefighter
Released on Aug. 4, 2009, for the Wii console, this first-person "shooter" replaces guns with hoses and enemies with walls of fire. If you need to chop your way through a door, no problem--just hit "B" and swing your Wii remote like an axe. With clear graphics, a cheesy background story, and realistic Wii remote controls, this firefighter simulation game lets players feel like they are facing down a real-life backdraft.
Firefighter Command: Raging Inferno
Released on Sept. 21, 2005, for PC, this firefighter simulation puts players in the boots of the chief commander of highly specialized forces. Designed with the help of firefighting professionals, the game forces players to confront three-dimensional fire that authentically responds to changing environmental conditions. You control over 40 firefighters and vehicles through four campaigns with 12 perilous missions, making decisions you hope will save lives.
Firefighter F.D. 18
Released on March 9, 2004, for the PlayStation 2, this firefighter simulator stars Dean McGregor, whose chief interest is saving civilian lives. As if 10 hours of search and rescue game play weren't enough, you will also have to face a uniquely named "boss" fire with its own special moves. The undeniable urge to fight a thinking, moving fire and the expansive visuals could sell this game to any player looking for a quirky, fun firefighter simulation.
Fire Truck
Rarer and older than the other three firefighter simulations, this black-and-white arcade game was released in 1978. Playable by up to two players, this game puts you behind the wheel of a fire engine speeding through a maze of winding city streets. In two-player mode, one player sits in control of the gas and brakes while the second player stands behind and steers the rig.
