Raquetball Rules

Racquetball is a face-paced game played in a court that is 20 feet wide, 40 feet long and 20 feet high. Games can be played by two or four players. The ball is made of hard rubber, measures 2-1/4 inches in diameter and weighing a little more than 1 ounce.
  1. Basic Rules

    • The object of the game is to continually hit or serve the ball deftly enough so that your opponent cannot return it. You may hit the ball after it hits the front, side or back walls before it bounces or after it bounces once. The ball must be returned by hitting the front wall before it hits the floor. Points are only scored by the server. You lose the serve after serving two faults or by failing to return a ball in play.

Games are played to 15 points, but must be won by two points. Matches are best of three games. If players each win a game, a tiebreaker game is played to 11; again, the winner must be ahead by two.

    Serving

    • You must have both feet in the serving zone to serve, although you may step on the service line as long as some portion of your foot remains in the zone. You must bounce the ball once and hit it against the front wall. The ball must then land beyond the short line before you can move beyond the short line. Serves are declared "out" if the ball hits the server, the back wall, the ceiling or more than one side wall before bouncing.

    Returns

    • You lose a point if you step on or in front of the receiving line during another player's serve. You may hit the ball as soon as it passes the receiving line, either before or after it hits the floor once. As long as your return strikes the front wall before it bounces, it may also hit any combination of side walls, ceiling and back wall.
