How to Defeat Shadow Link in Ocarina of Time

Although you will face many dangerous creatures throughout your adventures in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time," the most powerful foe you will face is yourself. Shadow Link appears as a mini-boss in the Shadow Temple and is one of the more challenging enemies in the game because your normal strategy will not work against him. Since you are fighting yourself, every move you make will be immediately countered. Since Shadow Link is an opposite version of Link, the strategies you must employ are the opposite of what you would normally consider in a battle.

Instructions

- 1
  Open your item screen before or during the battle and equip the Megaton Hammer and Iron Boots. Shadow Link will not be able to counter the attacks from the Megaton Hammer and its speed, along with your own, will be impeded by the Iron Boots.

  Cast spells like Djinn's Fire to attack Shadow Link without a counter.

  Attack Shadow Link without using Navi to target him. When you engage him in target mode, he engages you in target mode as well, giving him the ability to use a shield. Although this prevents you from utilizing your own shield, it gives you the chance to attack Shadow Link more often without being blocked.

  Throw a Deku Nut at Shadow Link to stun him. This item will only work once; however, it can be a useful emergency weapon if you need to break away to heal.

  Equip potions or fairy bottles and heal yourself whenever you get low on health. Shadow Link will not copy you when you heal.

  Lower Shadow Link's health to zero to defeat him. Shadow Link has the same amount of health as you do, however he begins the battle fully healed, even if you are not.
