How to Fix the Restricted Network Address Translation (NAT) for Halo 3

One of the little-known security features included with wireless routers is NAT, or Network Address Translation. Though the NAT setting is theoretically useful in preventing Internet attacks on your network, when your router's NAT setting is set to "Restricted" status many applications are prevented from accessing the Internet properly. One such game that will not function properly is "Halo 3." To get full use of games such as "Halo 3," fix your NAT setting to "Open" status instead of "Restricted" or "Secured."

Instructions

    • 1

Login to your router's configuration interface. This is usually done by entering the router's internal IP address (usually "192.168.0.1," "192.168.1.1," "192.168.2.1" or something similar) into the address bar of a Web browser.

    • 2

Click on the "WAN Setup" or similarly named link in the "Advanced" section of the router menu's navigation pane.

    • 3

Select "Open," "Unsecured" or "Unrestricted" (which option depends on the router manufacturer) next to "NAT Filtering." Click the "Apply" or similarly named button to save your settings. Your NAT is now unrestricted and you will have full access to the multiplayer on the "Halo 3" video game.
