Cheats for Pokemon Smaragd Edition

"Pokemon Smaragd," the German version of the 2005 Game Boy Advance game "Pokemon Emerald," features the same gameplay elements as its U.S. counterpart; only the languages are different. While there are no cheats available, there are some secrets hidden throughout the game that can make you a better player, such as hidden items, legendary Pokemon to capture and free berries.
  1. Held Items

    • In addition to items that can heal your Pokemon, some items exist that are meant to be held. These items include Charcoal, which gives your Pokemon's Fire-type moves a damage increase, or a Magnet, which can give your Pokemon's Electric-type moves a damage increase. Always give these items to a Pokemon when they are found; like regular items, they can turn the tide of a battle by increasing your Pokemon's power and effectiveness. A Pokemon can only hold one item at a time, and any Pokemon can hold any item; there are no restrictions on items a Pokemon can and cannot hold. In addition, some Pokemon, such as Seadra, can evolve into new forms such as Kingdra when it is traded while it is holding an item like the Dragon Scale.

    Speak to Everyone

    • Many items in Pokemon are gained by speaking to the people that inhabit Hoenn. For example, an old man in the Pokemart in Lavaridge Town gives you a Charcoal just for speaking to him. An Old Rod can be obtained by speaking to the fisherman next to the Dewford gym in Dewford Town, a Good Rod can be obtained by speaking to the fisherman on Route 118 and a Super Rod can be obtained by speaking to the fisherman north of the Mossdeep Space Center in Mossdeep City. After defeating the Petalburg gym leader, speak to your mother in Littleroot to receive the Amulet Coin, an item that doubles the amount of money you receive when winning a battle.

    Legendary Pokemon

    • Legendary Pokemon, such as Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza, have higher statistics than regular Pokemon. In addition, only one of these Pokemon are able to be caught per game. For this reason, it is imperative that you catch these Pokemon when you encounter them, rather than defeat them. If you defeat a legendary Pokemon, it is removed from the game permanently and you lose the opportunity to catch it. After defeating the Elite Four, Groudon and Kyogre can be caught at the Land Lair and Sea Lair, respectively. The location of the lairs change randomly; a researcher on the second floor of the Weather Institute, located west of Fortree City, can tell you where either lair is currently located. Rayquaza appears at the Sky Pillar before and after fighting the Elite Four.

    Free Berries

    • You can use berries to heal a Pokemon in battle or raising a Pokemon's contest attributes. Generally, berries can be found in the soft soil on every route. You can also get free berries from the Berry Master's Wife on Route 123 by telling her a phrase when speaking to her. To obtain a Pamtre Berry, use the phrase "CHALLENGE CONTEST." For the Durin Berry, say "COOL LATIOS." For the Spelon Berry, say "GREAT BATTLE." For the Watmel Berry, say the phrase "OVERWHELMING LATIAS" and finally, for the Belue Berry, say "SUPER HUSTLE." You can only obtain one out of five of these berries each day.
