Where to Catch Ditto in Pokemon Yellow

"Pokemon Yellow," a game introduced near the end of the original GameBoy's lifespan, was the third in the Pokemon series following "Pokemon Red" and "Pokemon Blue." It features Pikachu on its cover and, since the game is based on the anime, players must start with Pikachu instead of having the option of Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle as in other games. You come across and can catch newer Pokemon as you travel through the game, including Ditto, a normal-type Pokemon that can breed with a variety of Pokemon, even genderless Pokemon.
  1. Ditto Specifics

    • Ditto is„in the pokedex and is classified as a normal-type Pokemon. It does not evolve. Its primary purpose is to take the form of any other object or Pokemon, similar to the Pokemon Mew. It is purple in color and appears to have two arms sticking out of its sides. Ditto most frequently lives in caves and wooded areas. Ditto best transforms into other items or Pokemon if it has strong memory of its goal when the original item or Pokemon is not visible.

    Cinnabar Island

    • Enter Cinnabar Island after you walk along route 20. It is the home of the seventh gym and multiple trainers, including two Jr trainers, swimmer, bird keeper and two beauty trainers. You can visit the Pokemart on the island to purchase healing and reviving potions and master and ultra balls, which make your efforts to catch wild Pokemon much more successful. Visit the Pokemon Mansion on the island, then travel down to the basement. You'll find the key to unlock the gym along with wild ditto at the bottom level of the tower. Ditto is rare, so you may have to leave and re-enter the room a few times to spot him.

    Cerulean Cave

    • The Cerulean Cave is in the northwestern corner of Cerulean City in Kanto. It is also known as the Unknown Dungeon. You need to battle the Pokemon master at the entrance of the cave to prove yourself worthy to gain access to the cave due to the wide range of Pokemon inside. These Pokemon include the one-and-only Mewtwo, a rare psychic-type Pokemon. Ditto is common in the Unknown dungeon. Surf through the paths and climb up and down the various ladders to explore the cave. As you walk you will encounter wild Pokemon, including Ditto.

    Routes 13, 14, 15 and 23

    • You can find Ditto in "Pokemon Yellow" in the mansion and Unknown Dungeon, but you can also encounter ditto on your travels from one area to another on routes 13, 14, 15 or 23. Route 13 spans from the bridge on route 12 to route 14 at the opposite end of Kanto. Route 14 runs north to south and is a primary location for flying type and poison Pokemon. Try scoping out another route if you have problems encountering Ditto in one location or return to the location at another time to capture Ditto.
