How to Get the Key for the Team Rocket Basement in Pokemon LeafGreen

The basement lift key in "Pokemon Leaf Green" gives players access to restricted areas and a basement elevator in the underground base of Team Rocket. The player must first travel to Celadon City with healthy Pokemon. The key is a reward for the player who beats a Team Rocket member inside the underground base.

Instructions

  Press the "Start" button to open the main menu. Select "Backpack" from the list of available options. A new window will appear.

  Press the "L" button to cycle through the tabs until the "Key Items" tab appears. Select "World Map." Celadon City is directly west of Saffron City on the center of the world map.

  Travel to Celadon City and visit the Poké Center. Press the "A" button to initiate a conversation with the woman behind the counter. Press the "A" button until you are asked if you would like to have your Pokémon healed. Select "Yes."

  Walk into the Celadon City Game Corner southwest of the city's Poké Center. Press the "A" button to initiate a conversation with the Team Rocket member standing directly in front of a large poster. Cycle through the dialog and battle the Team Rocket member. After the battle he will run out the front door.

  Approach the poster. Press the "A" button to reveal a secret switch, which leads to a staircase. Take the stairs to the lower floor. Take the left hallway and stay against the wall. At the end of the hall, take the stairs down to the next floor. Stay against the left side of the hall and walk until you reach a maze.

  Walk onto the conveyor belt farthest from the ground. The conveyor belt will carry your character to another set of conveyor belts. Step onto the conveyor belt moving out toward the right. Ride the belt to another room containing a staircase and an elevator.

  Take the stairs down to the fourth level and walk to the northwestern end of the room. Press the "A" button to initiate a battle with the Team Rocket member here. Defeat the Team Rocket member here to get the lift key.
