How to Catch Rayquaza in Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire

Rayquaza is a legendary Dragon and Flying Pokemon you can catch in "Pokemon Ruby" and "Pokemon Sapphire." You won't have access to Rayquaza until after you've defeated the Elite Four and the Pokemon League Champion. Rayquaza resides at the top of the Sky Pillar. When you encounter him, he's already a level 70 Pokemon, making Rayquaza very difficult to catch. You'll need to use a really strong Poke Ball, such as an Ultra Ball. If you still have it, consider using the game's one Master Ball to catch Rayquaza. The Master Ball catches any Pokemon you throw it at, no matter what its level or health.

Instructions

  Use the HM move Fly to quickly travel to Pacifidlog Town. Heal your Pokemon in the Poke Center and buy some Ultra Balls in the town's Poke Mart unless you plan on using your Master Ball.

  Go to the right side of the town and use HM Surf to access Route 131. Surf east until you find a cave entrance near the top of the screen. Enter the cave and walk through to the opposite end, exiting the back.

  Walk forward until you see the Sky Pillar and enter it. From the entrance, head to your left, then go up and around the room, navigating around the obstacles, entering the staircase leading to the second floor.

  Equip the Mach Bike and go over the cracks in the floor. If you don't use the Mach Bike, you'll fall through to the first floor. If you stop on a cracked floor while on the bike, you'll also fall through. Navigate along the room's lower wall heading towards your left. Ride through the rocky area and avoid hitting any rocks since they'll stop you and make you fall through the floor. Enter the staircase leading to the third floor.

  Go down and right, then navigate the obstacles to the fourth floor's staircase. The third floor has no floor cracks, so you don't have to worry about falling through.

  Enter the room and bike downward, moving a few spaces to your right near the end. Locate four cracked floor tiles forming a square and stop on the middle, falling back down to the third floor. You'll land in front of a previous blocked staircase; take it to get back up to the fourth floor.

  Take the stairs on the left to reach the fifth floor. There are no cracked floors on this floor so simply navigate the room until you reach the staircase leading to the sixth floor. Once on the sixth floor, save your game. You only get one chance to fight and capture Rayquaza. If you save your game, you can reset it and try again if you can't catch him the first time.

  Walk up to Rayquaza and press "A" to begin the battle. Wear him down until he's almost out of HP and try to catch him using either your Ultra Balls or Master Ball. When you're finished, exit to the top of the tower and use HM Fly to leave the Sky Pillar.
