How to Get Rid of Sudowoodo in Crystal

Many "Pokemon Crystal" players have trouble getting past Route 36 because of the Sudowoodo that stands in the way. Unfortunately, nothing will repel the Sudowoodo except water. You will need a Squirt Bottle to get rid of the level 20 Sudowoodo, which is a Rock-type Pokemon that is often mistaken for a tree. Once you get past the Sudowoodo and Route 36, you will be able to go to Ecruteak City.

Instructions

  Go to Goldenrod and battle Whitney in her gym, which is located above the railroad tracks. Defeat her level 18 Clefairy and her level 20 Miltank. Talk to the Lass nearby after Whitney has a fit about her defeat. Talk to Whitney; she will give you the Plain Badge.

  Leave the gym and go to the house with many plants. This house is located to the very right of Whitney's gym. Talk to the woman inside the house, and she will see your badge. Continue speaking to her until she gives you a Squirt Bottle.

  Heal your party at the Pokemon Center and go to the MegaMart. Buy about 20 Great Balls and 10 Ultra Balls, if you can afford them. Ultra Balls cost 1,200 Poke Dollars and Great Balls cost 600 Poke Dollars. Purchase Full Heals if you don't think your party will fare well against a level 20 Pokemon.

  Head north of Goldenrod City and enter the gatehouse. Don't talk to the guard and exit the gatehouse. Walk east until you get to Route 36. Go up to the Sudowoodo and save your game. Examine it and select "Squirt bottle" from the drop-down menu.

  Use Water and Fighting-type moves to lower the Sudowoodo's health to the red zone. When the Sudowoodo's health is low, throw Great Balls and Ultra Balls to capture it. If you're not interested in catching it, defeat it.
