Instructions for Monster Rancher Battle Card for the Game Boy Color

"Monster Rancher Battle Card" is a 1999 game for the Nintendo Game Boy Color. Unlike previous entries in the "Monster Rancher" franchise, players use cards to battle opponents instead of creatures. A deck of cards consists of monster cards and support cards that allow players to attack or defend. Players take turns and lose if their monster cards lose all health. New cards can be acquired by defeating opponents.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "New Game" from the main menu then choose "Boy" or "Girl." This has no bearing on the gameplay and is purely cosmetic.

    • 2

Enter a name for your character. Select "End." Select "Yes" when asked to confirm.

    • 3

Select "Yes" or "No" to the questions asked by Carlin at the start of the game. Your answers determine what kind of monster cards you receive to start the game. For a powerful team, answer "No" to all the questions.

    • 4

Answer "Yes" after walking out of the building to receive a quick tutorial on how to use your cards. Press "Left" or "Right" on the D-pad to scroll through the available instructions. Press "A" for a explanation. Speak to Carlin at the battle arena if you want to hear the rules again.

    • 5

Place three monster cards and 50 skill cards in your deck. You cannot have more than three of the same cards in your deck.

    • 6

Attack with your monster cards when battling an opponent. You are allowed to attack up to four times, but only if you have the correct skill cards. Use defense cards to protect your monsters from attack.

    • 7

Press "Left" and "Right" to scroll through the cards in your hand once a round starts. Press "A." Select "Enguts" to discard a card and turn it into Guts. Guts are required to use skills and every card that you use Enguts on will give you one Guts.

    • 8

Press "Left" and "Right" to scroll through the cards in your hand then look at the number on the bottom left of the card. This is the amount of Guts required to play the card. Your total amount of Guts is shown at the bottom right of the screen. If you have enough Guts, press "A" to play the card. The Guts used will be subtracted from your total. You need Enguts cards again to build up this total.

    • 9

Press "B" and select "End" to end your turn. Continue these steps until you have reduced all of your opponents' monsters' health to zero.
