WWE Games for Gameboy

There are a number of wrestling games for the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advanced handheld systems, though many of them were released prior to WWE. In 2002, the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) was forced to change their name to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) when the World Wildlife Fund threatened to sue the wrestling federation. Though both companies shared the name for several decades, World Wildlife Fund, a non-profit organization, held the copyright to the name. All games released after 2002 were released under the new name WWE.
  1. WWE Survival Series

    • WWE Survival Series was released for the Game Boy Advanced in October of 2004. Rated Teen, this installment of the WWE lineup allowed for single player or mutli link mode to play against friends. The single player campaign featured new game play mechanics for grappling, submissions, and reversals as well as momentum systems making for smoother wrestling. Multiplayer mode allows for cage matches, tag team, fatal four way, and eight match mode similar to king of the ring in previous games.

    WWE Road to Wrestlemania X8

    • WWE Road to Wrestlemania X8 was released in October 2002 for the Game Boy Advanced. Like previous Wrestlemania games one of the main draws is the amount of wrestlers featured. This game featured Booker T, Bubba Ray Dudley, D-Von Dudley, Chris Jericho, Christian, Edge, Hollywood Hogan, Kane, Kevin Nash, Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Test, The Rock, Triple H, and the Undertaker. This was one of the last games to feature The Rock while he was still wrestling, as this game was based on the Wrestlemania pay-per-view of the same name.

    WWE Smackdown VS Raw

    • Though there were only two official WWE games for the Game Boy, as all the rest were WWF releases, there have since been a number of WWE games for the Nintendo DS hand held. The Nintendo DS is Nintendo’s new handheld to follow up the Game Boy and they have released multiple WWE editions of Smackdown VS Raw. The new series of WWE games have a whole new feel as well as updated graphics, and a brand new engine that at teems feels like a turn based game. Rather than two-button mashing, the new Smackdown VS Raw series gives you grappling options that flash on the screen. You can compete in singles matches, hardcore, iron man, last man standing, submission, and three stages of hell. Since these games have been released annually, they get better and better.
