How to Make a Shiny Starter in Pokemon FireRed

Some Pokemon are not meant for battling, but rather just collecting because they are rare. Some of the categories include legendary, like Articuno; ultra rare, like Feebas; and shiny. Of all the categories, shiny Pokemon are the most difficult, as they are the rarest of all Pokemon. When compared to the normal counterparts, they appear in a different color and sparkle when sent into battle. However, their battle stats are comparable and can be equally as good or as bad as the normal counterparts. Be warned: Obtaining a shiny Pokemon is entirely based on luck--you have a 1 in 8192 chance of obtaining one--and there is no way to increase the odds.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert Pokemon FireRed into the Game Boy Advance&'s socket and turn on the game.

    • 2

Press "Start" when the main screen appears. Press "A" and select "New Game." This will completely erase your previous saved game, so be sure you want to continue before proceeding.

    • 3

Continue to press "A" through the dialogue with Professor Oak, including selecting your gender, your name and your rival&'s name. At the end of the introduction, you will end up in your room.

    • 4

Exit the house by going downstairs, then save the game in front of your house.

    • 5

Head north to leave Pallet Town. You will be stopped by Professor Oak.

    • 6

Follow Professor Oak back to his lab, where he will give you a choice of a starter Pokemon: Squirtle, Charmander or Bulbasaur. Pick one, then check to see whether it is a different color than its normal form. If it is, you have a shiny Pokemon.

    • 7

Turn off the game without saving if your starter is not shiny. Restart the game and repeat Steps 5 and 6 until you get a shiny starter.
