How to Drift With a GameCube Controller

There are a variety of racing games for the Nintendo GameCube. The racing game titles include "Wave Race: Blue Storm," "F-Zero GX," "NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup" and "Need For Speed: Underground." While the some of the controls, cars, tracks and objectives differ from game to game, some things remain the same from game to game. One of the procedures that most of the games share is how to drift, since the controls to steer, brake and accelerate are the same.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the game and begin a new race. If the game has a practice mode, use it to practice drifting.

    • 2

Accelerate by pressing the "A" button on the GameCube game controller. Continue to hold the "A" button in order to increase the speed of your car.

    • 3

Pay attention to the map on your screen for upcoming curves; drifting is done in curves and turns. Most racing and driving games sport an onscreen map of the course you are currently driving on. If you don't see the map, you may have to turn it on by going to the "Settings" or "Options" area of the menu.

    • 4

Use the control stick to tilt the car in the direction of the curve. If it is a right curve, hold the control stick in the right direction, or in the left direction for a left curve. Once the car is turning in the correct direction in the curve, release the hold on the control stick.

    • 5

Continue to hold the "A" button, then hold the "L" button for a left curve, or the "R" button for a right curve, while going through the curve to drift.
