Modem and Wireless Router
To connect your Nintendo DSi to the Internet, you need a broadband Internet connection, such as DSL, and a wireless router. Verify your broadband access by connecting other network devices such as laptops. If your wireless connection is behaving erratically, your DSi won't connect to it. Restarting or resetting the router might solve connection problems. Contact your Internet service provider if connection problems persist.
Access Connection Settings
Turn on your Nintendo DSi and access the System Settings by tapping the wrench icon on the screen. The settings are displayed by page. Select the "Internet" option on the third page to bring up the network configuration screen. Click the "Connection Settings" button to bring up the Internet connections screen. Verify that all the connection settings say "None," and then click the button next to "Connection 1" to begin the configuration process.
Search For Access Points
Click the "Search for an Access Point" button to search for the wireless networks within range. When the search completes, the DSi displays a list of the wireless networks you can connect to. If it detects more than one network, you'll see an open or locked padlock icon next to unsecure and secure networks, respectively. If you don't see your wireless network, make sure you're close enough to the access point. Tap the name of your wireless access point. Enter the password if your network is password-protected. When prompted, save the settings so you don't have to enter them again when you want to connect to the Internet.
Connection Test
When the setup completes, the DSi prompts you to run an automatic connection test. The on-screen test is designed to ensure communication exists between the gaming console and the wireless network. During the test, the "Testing connection" message is displayed on the game's screen. If the connection is successful, the following message is displayed: "Connection test successful." If you see an error, check the wireless connection you selected.
