The Nintendo DS is the most successful handheld console Nintendo has ever made and is attractive to modders because of its SD card-compatible cartridge slot. Occasionally through modifying the Nintendo DS, however, modders can render the system inoperable. In this situation, the system usually needs to be "hard reset," which is restoring the firmware and settings of the console to their initial factory status. This deletes any data on the system, including saves and downloaded apps and games.
