How to Change XP Rate in Pokemon SoulSilver in Japan

The Pokemon in "Pokemon SoulSilver" gain experience points, or XP, from battling other Pokemon. After a Pokemon gains enough XP, it can level up, which can lead to new moves and even evolution. For competitive battle, you will want your Pokemon to have high levels, which require large amounts of XP. You can increase the rate your Pokemon gain XP at so you can level them up in a shorter amount of time.

Instructions

    • 1

Catch wild Chanseys along Routes 13, 14 and 15 until you catch one that is equipped with a Lucky Egg. Take the Lucky Egg off of the Chansey, and equip it to the Pokemon you want to train. Any XP earned by a Pokemon with a Lucky Egg is multiplied by 1.5.

    • 2

Battle other trainers in the game instead of training against wild Pokemon. Any XP you earn by defeating other trainers' Pokemon is multiplied by 1.5.

    • 3

Defeat tougher Pokemon in battle. As a Pokemon's level increases, so does the amount of XP you get for defeating it. Evolved Pokemon yield more XP than their unevolved forms. Whenever you battle a Pokemon, its level is displayed above its HP bar, next to its name. Some of the toughest Pokemon in the game are owned by the 16 gym leaders. You can challenge the gym leaders to rematches in the Saffron City Fighting Dojo.

    • 4

Battle with Pokemon that you obtained in a trade or imported from another "Pokemon" game, as these Pokemon earn XP more quickly than Pokemon you caught in your "Pokemon SoulSilver" game. If these Pokemon originated in another Japanese-language game, all of the XP they earn is multiplied by 1.5, but if they originated in a game of a different language, all of the XP they earn is multiplied by 1.7.
