Types of Pokemon in Soul Silver

There are 17 elemental Pokemon types in the Nintendo DS video game "Pokemon SoulSilver." Each Pokemon type is strong against some types but weak against others. This means it is impossible for any one type to dominate the game. Players must build teams of several different types to compete well in battles.
  1. Normal and Fighting types

    • Normal-type Pokemon are common and are especially weak against Fighting-type Attacks. They have no effect on Ghost-types and vice versa. Fighting-types are rare and are super effective when attacking Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark and Steel-types. They are vulnerable against Flying and Psychic-types and are not very effective against Poison and Grass-types.

    Water and Ice types

    • Water-type Pokemon are very common and are super-effective against Fire, Ground and Rock-types. They are weak against Electric and Grass-type attacks and are ineffective against Dragon and other Water-types. Ice-type Pokemon are strong against Grass, Ground, Flying and Dragon-types, but vulnerable against Fire, Fighting, Rock and Steel types.

    Electric and Steel types

    • Electric-type Pokemon are strong against Water and Flying-types. Their biggest weakness is against Ground-type Pokemon. Steel-type Pokemon are relatively rare. They are best against Ice and Rock-types but can resist attacks from most Pokemon. They are completely immune to Poison attacks. They are only vulnerable to Fire, Fighting and Ground-types.

    Rock and Ground

    • Rock-type Pokemon are effective against Fire, Ice, Flying and Bug-type Pokemon. They are resistant to attacks from Normal, Fire, Poison and Flying-types. They are very weak against Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground and Steel-types. Ground-type Pokemon are super effective against Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock and Steel types. They have no effect on Flying-types and are weak against Water, Grass and Ice.

    Grass and Bug

    • Grass-type Pokemon are strong against Water, Ground and Rock-types but have little impact on a lot of other types. They are very weak against Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying and Bug-types. Bug-type Pokemon are super effective against Grass, Psychic and Dark-type Pokemon, but weak against Fire, Flying and Rock-types. They are ineffective against Fire, Fighting, Poison, Flying, Ghost and Steel-types.

    Poison and Psychic

    • Poison-types have the ability to poison other Pokemon, so that they lose some health points every turn until they use an Antidote. Poison-types are strong against Grass, but have no effect Steel-types and are weak to attacks from Ground and Psychic-type Pokemon. Team Rocket, the adversaries in "SoulSilver," use a lot of Poison-type Pokemon. Psychics are strong against Poison and Fighting but have no effect on Dark-types. They are vulnerable to attacks from Bug, Ghost and Dark-types.

    Fire and Flying

    • Fire-type Pokemon are quite common in "SoulSilver" and are very effective when fighting against Grass, Ice, Bug and Steel-types. They are weak against Water, Ground and Rock types, and not very effective against Dragons and other Fire-types. Flying-type Pokemon, which are also very common, cannot be harmed by Ground-type Pokemon and are very effective when attacking Grass, Fighting and Bug-types. They are weak against Electric, Ice, Rock and Steel types.

    Ghost, Dragon and Dark types

    • Only a few of these Pokemon types appear in the game. Ghost-types have no effect on Normal types but in turn cannot be affected by them. They are effective against Psychic and other Ghosts but weak against Dark-types. Dragon-types are strong against other Dragon-types but weak against Ice and ineffective against Steel. Dark-types are effective against Psychic and Ghost-types, but weak against Fighting and Bug-types. Psychic-types have no effect on Dark-type Pokemon.
