Does Linksys Work for DSi?

Linksys routers work just as well with the Nintendo DSi as they do with any other router. The DSi wireless standards are based on certain security settings, rather than on any specific router. On the Nintendo support page, the company offers the tutorials for using products from over 31 different manufacturers of wireless routers.

Linksys Wireless Management
- To access your Linksys router, enter "192.168.1.1" in your browser while you're connected to your home network. You'll be prompted for your username and password; if you've never accessed your router before, both fields are "admin." Click "Wireless" to open settings for your router. Under "Basic Router Settings" you can change the name of your network, whether or not the network broadcasts, and the wireless mode. To change the security mode (WPA, WEP, or none) and set your network password, go to "Wireless Security;" choose the security protocol from the "Security Mode" drop-down menu and fill in your password or passphrase. Click "Save Settings" to apply your changes.
WPA Versus WEP
- While WPA is considered the tighter wireless security, it is not fully compatible with the DSi; any online game features will be unavailable on WPA networks. If you use WEP, you will be able to access online content and features, including in games and competitive play, but WEP does leave your home network a bit less secure. Choosing no security is ill-advised, since anyone will be able to access your network and use up your bandwidth.
Setting Up DSi Wireless
- Start your DSi and click the "Settings" icon from the main menu; on page three of your settings options, click "Internet." If you're using WEP or no security, tap the "None" button beside "Connection 1;" for WPA networks, click "Advanced Setup" and choose the "None" beside "Connection 4." On the next page click "Search for an Access Point" and select your network from the nearby wireless options. Fill in your network password and save your settings.
Uses of DSi Wireless
- The DSi uses wireless to connect with other players in games, either competitively or to engage in other game tasks. Using wireless Internet you can also access the DSi shop to download games and applications for the system, browse the Internet using the DSi browser, send pictures to Facebook and update your system.
