Male & Female Stat Differences in Pokemon Pearl

"Pokemon: Pearl Version" is yet another installment in the Pokemon game series released by Nintendo. Unlike many of the previous games, "Pearl Version" and "Diamond Version" have gender differences in some of the Pokemon species. The differences are subtle and few but most of them are visible in the respective Pokemon's Pokedex profile. The gender of your Pokemon will not affect its stats necessarily, but the physical differences are recognizable, though difficult to spot.
  1. Pokemon With Visible Differences

    • The list of Pokemon with visible difference is as follows: Venusaur, Butterfree, Rattata, Raticate, Pikachu, Raichu, Zubat, Golbat, Gloom, Vileplume, Kadabra, Alakazam, Doduo, Dodrio, Hypno, Rhyhorn, Rhydon, Goldeen, Seaking, Scyther, Magikarp, Gyarados, Meganium, Ledyba, Ledian, Xatu, Sudowoodu, Politoed, Aipom, Wooper, Quagsire, Murkrow, Wobbuffet, Girafarig, Gligar, Steelix, Scizor, Heracross, Sneasel, Ursaring, Piloswine, Octillery, Houndoom, Donphan, Combusken, Blaziken, Beautifly, Dustox, Ludicolo, Nuzleaf, Shiftry, Meditite, Medicharm, Roselia, Gulpin, Swalot, Numel, Camerupt, Cacturne, Milotic, Relicanth, Starly, Staravia, Staraptor, Bidoof, Bibarel, Kricketot, Kricketune, Shinx, Luxio, Luxray, Roserade, Combee, Pachirisu, Buizel, Floatzel, Ambipom, Gible, Gabite, Garchomp, Hippopotas, Hippowdon, Croagunk, Toxicroak, Finneon, Lumineon, Snover, Abomasnow, Weavile, Rhyperior, Tangrowth and Mamoswine.

    What To Look For

    • The differences are visible in the Pokedex pictures. The subtle differences will be hard to spot, but usually they will be different colored whiskers or spots. More commonly, you will notice that certain features, such as the whiskers, hair, hands, etc. are larger on one gender than on another. You will usually find the difference in one of the main characteristics of the Pokemon.

    Purpose of Gender Differences

    • None of the previous Pokemon games have had Pokemon genders besides the species of Nidoran up until the "Diamond" and "Pearl" installments of the games. The purpose for this addition was to implement Pokemon breeding. Now, it is common place to see Pokemon with a specified gender in Pokemon video games and is one of the more important aspects of game play in the more current games.

More About Gender Differences in "Pearl Version"

    • In "Pokemon: Pearl Version" approximately 1/5 of the Pokemon in the entire Pokedex and game have differences based on gender. Despite the fact that both genders are available for each Pokemon, only certain species have definite differences. The subtle differences in appearance between genders are often not visible from the front. This makes the differences hard to discover and there is little doubt that many players have never noticed the differences at all.
