How to Fill the National Pokedex in Pokemon Platinum

With the release of "Pokemon Platinum," the Sinnoh Pokedex was greatly expanded beyond "Pokemon Diamond" and "Pokemon Pearl." Completing the National Pokedex can be a herculean task for a Pokemon trainer due to the rarity of many of the monsters and the trading needed to meet them all. Completing the Sinnoh region Pokedex is much easier before you find the National Pokedex upgrade, but the satisfaction of finding nearly 500 different Pokemon is worth the lengthy adventure.

Instructions

    • 1

Complete "Pokemon Platinum" by defeating the Elite Four to meet most of the regional 210 Pokemon. Battling every trainer you encounter, all eight Gym Leaders and the Elite Four will introduce the majority of the pre-National Pokedex Pokemon to you.

    • 2

Search the Sinnoh Region for the extremely rare and legendary Pokemon. Legendary Pokemon cannot be found unless a player hunts them down in the wild. Dialga, Palkia, Heatran and Giratina are a few of the legends that need to be tracked down.

    • 3

Use the Poke Radar item in every grassy Route to locate Pokemon that aren't usually available in the Sinnoh Region. For example, by using Poke Radar in a grassy spot on Route 229, you may encounter a wild Venonat.

    • 4

Play with one of the Game Boy Advance Pokemon titles in the GBA slot to unlock additional Pokemon in "Pokemon Platinum." This feature works with "Pokemon Ruby," "Pokemon Sapphire," "Pokemon FireRed," "Pokemon Emerald" and "Pokemon LeafGreen." If you play "Pokemon Platinum" with "Pokemon LeafGreen" connected to the Nintendo DS, Weedle is on Route 204 and in Eterna Forest.

    • 5

Trade with other versions of Pokemon to import monsters that cannot be captured by playing "Pokemon Platinum" alone. Groudon, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Regirock and Venusaur are some of the creatures that must be traded over to "Pokemon Platinum" to complete the National Pokedex.

Visit the official Pokemon website for promotions and giveaways for extremely rare Pokemon such as Darkrai and Entei. Some Pokemon cannot be added to the Pokedex without attending official Nintendo events, such as Mew and Celebi.
