You will need to defeat the Elite Four and the Champion in a series of Pokémon battles. The Elite Four and the Champion are powerful Pokémon Trainers who specialize in one type of Pokémon. Once you enter the Pokémon League you cannot leave until you defeat each opponent or are defeated.

If you defeat each opponent in the Final Four and the Champion, you will be taken back to the Champion's Room, where your character will speak with the Champion before saving the game. The game is saved automatically before the end credits begin. After the credits complete you can press either the "Start" button or the A button to exit out of the credits.

Travel to Turnback Cave on Route 214. To reach Turnback Cave you will need a Pokémon with the move Rock Climb and another Pokémon with Surf. Rock Climb and Surf are hidden moves, which you will have earned through normal game play. If you have a Pokémon that knows Rock Climb, move your character to face the cliff with what looks to be hand holds. Once facing the cliff, press the "A" button. Animation will begin, and you will travel up the wall if you have a Pokémon with this ability.

    • 4

Walk down onto the dock by the water at the top of the cliff. Face the water and press the "A" button to begin traveling on water. Head north on the water to the ledge and a cave entrance. Enter the cave.

    • 5

Press the "Y" Button to open the menu if you do not have a Pokémon that knows Rock Climb or Surf. Move the cursor with the control pad until your bag is highlighted and press the "A" button. This will open your bag. You will see the image of a bag on the left side of the screen and a title bar telling you which pouch you are currently in.

Cycle left or right with the control pad until you are in the "TM &HM" pouch. Press up or down on the control pad until HM 08 Rock Climb or HM 03 Surf is highlighted. Press the "A" button.

    • 6

Move the cursor to highlight "Yes" with the control pad when the game asks you if you would like to use this HM. Press the "A" button. This will open a screen where you can see all of your active party of Pokémon with either an Able or Unable tag. Select a Pokémon that has the "Able" tag that you wish to teach Rock Climb or Surf and press the "A" button.

The game will confirm that you want to teach the move to this Pokémon. Highlight "Yes" with the control pad and press the "A" button. This will send you to a screen showing all of the Pokémon's attacks. You can only have four attacks known. Select with the control pad which attack you wish to forget and press the "A" button. The game will confirm that you wish to forget this move. Highlight "Yes" with the control pad and press the "A" button. The Pokémon will learn Rock Climb or Surf.

Cancel out of the bag by pressing the "B" button.

Walk into the cave entrance to enter Turnback Cave. Inside of Turnback Cave you will see a room with four exits. There is one exit on each of the cardinal directions: north, south, east and west. Each exit will send you to a random room in this complex. Pass through any door on the screen and continue to explore the cave.

During your exploration you will randomly encounter three pillars. After encountering the third pillar any of the exits will take you to Giratina's Room.

    • 8

Enter Giratina's Room. Sitting in the middle of the room will be Giratina. Save the game before the battle. If you fail to capture Giratina, you can turn off the game unit and restart the game. Continue the game as described in Step 2.

To save the game press the "X" button. This will open the menu. Press up or down on the control pad until "Save" is highlighted. Press the "A" button. The game will ask you if you want to save. Highlight "Yes" by pressing up or down on the control pad and pressing the "A" button. The game will ask you to confirm that you want to save the game. Highlight "Yes" again with the up or down buttons and press the "A" button. The game will save.

    • 9

Walk up to Giratina and press the "A" button. This will initiate a fight with a level 47 Giratina. To capture Giratina there are several methods. The easiest and most sure method is use of a Master Ball. This special Pokéball is found during the normal progression of the game. The Master Ball will capture Giratina without fail. To use the Master Ball, tap the bag icon on the touch screen to open your bag. Tap the Pokéball icon to enter the pouch that holds your Pokéballs. Tap the icon for the Master Ball to use it.

    • 10

Fight Giratina if you do not have a Master Ball. You will have to lower the hit point of Giratina as low as possible before using a Pokéball. Due to the Ghost/Dragon type that Giratina possesses, it has several strong resistances and several weaknesses. Giratina will be totally immune to attacks of the Normal or Fighting type and take half damage from Fire, Water and Electricity moves. This Pokémon is weak against Dragon, Dark, Ice and Ghost attacks, taking double damage from these attacks. Reduce Giratina's hit points as low as possible to make it easier to capture this Pokémon.

Use moves that inflict status effects such as Sleep and Paralysis or moves that lower the basic stats of Giratina to make capturing Giratina easier. When you are ready to capture Giratina tap the bag icon on the touch screen. This will open your bag. Select the Pokéball icon and tap it.

    • 11

Press the Pokéball icon to show all the Pokéballs that your character carries. The most effective type of Pokéball to use is the Dusk Ball, Timer Ball or the Ultra Ball. The strongest Pokéball to use initially in this fight is the Dusk Ball if you are not using the Master Ball. As the battle continues the Timer Ball will become more powerful, making it easier to catch Giratina. If you run out of Dusk Balls and Timer Balls, begin to use Ultra Balls.

    • 12

Continue throwing Pokéballs until you capture Giratina, Giratina defeats your party or Giratina passes out from too much damage. If Giratina defeats your party or passes out from too much damage, you can restart the game as mentioned in Step 5.

Giratina will reappear by defeating the Elite Four and the Champion again if you choose to not reload and continue the game. Travel to the Pokémon League and re-challenge the Elite Four and the Champion. Once you succeed and save the game, you restart in your Mother's House. You can continue to reset Giratina until you capture it by re-defeating the Elite Four and the Champion.
