How Do I Get the HM Surf?

In every game in the "Pokemon" video game franchise, you teach your Pokemon special moves which helps you progress through the game. These moves are learned from "Hidden Machines", which you collect as the story progresses. One of the most important Hidden Machine moves is "Surf", which allows you to surf across water on a Pokemon's back. In Pokemon "Black" and "White" Versions, you get the HM Surf from Alder, the Pokemon Champion, on Twist Mountain.

Instructions

  Play through the early stages of the game, collecting the Trio, Basic, Insect, Bolt, Quake and Jet badges by beating the Pokemon Gym Leaders in Striaton City, Nacrene City, Castelia City, Nimbasa City, Driftwell City and Mistralton City.

  Head North from Mistralton City on Route 7, to Twist Mountain.

  Meet your rival Pokemon trainer, Cheren, and battle him.

  Beat Cheren by defeating all of his Pokemon. He has a Level 33 Unfezant, a Level 33 Liepard and two other Pokemon, depending on which Pokemon you chose at the start of the game. If you chose Snivy, Cheren has a Level 33 Simisage and a Level 35 Pignite. If you chose Tepig, he has a Level 33 Simisear and a Level 35 Dewott, and if you chose Oshawott then he has a Level 33 Simipour and a Level 35 Servine.

  Speak to Pokemon Champion Alder, who shows up right after you beat Cheren and give you HM Surf.

  Use the HM to teach Surf to one of your Pokemon that's capable of learning the move.
