How to Reset an R4i Gold

The DSi is the latest iteration of the insanely popular 2D hand-held, the Nintendo DS. An interesting peripheral device for the DSi is the R4i Gold, a cartridge that allows users to run home-brew software. Home-brew is unlicensed software written by amateur programming enthusiasts. When running home-brew, you can return to the R4i main menu without turning the DSi off. The R4i has a reset feature that allows you to return to the main menu at any time by activating a button sequence.

Instructions

  Place the R4i Gold within the DSi cartridge socket.

  Power on the DSi by pressing the "Power" button. The R4i Gold menu will appear.

  Select a home-brew program and launch it by tapping on it with the stylus, or use the "A" button. The program will then load. Once loaded, you can return to the R4i Gold menu by performing a reset, detailed in the next step.

  Press and hold both shoulder buttons, "L" and "R," while pressing all the face buttons "A", "B", "X" and "Y." The home-brew software will be terminated and you will return to the R4i Gold menu.
