Problems Using an Intec Power Adapter for the Wii

The Nintendo Wii comes with a first-party power adapter that is used to power the system. If you purchased a used Wii system that did not come with a first-party power adapter or if you have simply lost your adapter, the Intec Power Adapter for the Wii is an excellent alternative to purchasing the Nintendo adapter.
  1. Advantages of Intec Power Adapter

    • The Intec Power Adapter is popular enough to be found in most major retail chains so you will be able to pick one up from such stores as Walmart or Target. Additionally, the Intec Power Adapter is much cheaper than the official Nintendo adapter, priced online at $22 compared to the $30 price tag that accompanies the first-party adapter, as of the time of publication.

    Disadvantages of Intec Power Adapter

    • The Intec Power Adapter does not come with a warranty, like the official Nintendo adapter does. If your Intec adapter begins to experience problems, you may have to purchase a new one if yours is faulty. Additionally, because of the price, the Intec Power Adapter has been known to have several problems that do not occur with the first-party adapter.

    Intec Power Adapter Problems

    • The most common problem that plagues the Intec Power Adapter is loose connections. Occasionally, you will find that the connection falls out of the system. This can be remedied by making sure that the power adapter is securely connected. Other problems that have plagued the Intec Power Adapter are loose wiring or even faulty adapters. If you find that the wiring of your Intec Power adapter is showing, you can use electrical tape to cover it up and help prevent accidents. If you find that no matter how secure you try connecting the adapter, it is simply not working, your adapter may simply be faulty, in which case you should return it to the store you bought it from to receive a replacement.

Properly Using Your Intec Power Adapter

    • The Intec Power Adapter is very simple to use. The smaller end connects into the back of the Wii system. The adapter connection is the connection at the very bottom of the back of the Wii. Once you've secured that end, you connect the electrical plug into any electrical outlet. Make sure both ends are properly connected by pushing them in all the way.

    Other Issues

    • Occasionally, the issue may not be with the Intec adapter. Other possible issues for your Wii not functioning properly are: electrical outlets that do not work, an overheating Wii system or even a faulty Wii. Test the adapter with other outlets and make sure the Wii unit not placed on carpet. The carpet may block the output of the Wii's fan, causing the Wii to overheat.
