Nintendo Wii
Nintendo's Wii console made a big splash in the world of gaming when it was originally released in 2006. Boasting a revolutionary new input method that uses motion sensors in the controller to synch movements with action in the games, the Wii became a smash hit which, as of the date of publication, has sold an estimated 87.57 million consoles.
Wii Homebrew
Wii Homebrew is a term referring to user-created content designed to run on the Wii console. This content is typically user-created games, which are produced without the consent of Nintendo and often freely distributed by their developers. The games are usually loaded onto an SD card for use in the Wii. Sometimes homebrew is used as a way to illegally pirate games, although in general, this behavior is frowned upon within the homebrew community.
Homebrew Channel
Homebrew Channel is a freeware homebrew loader designed to make running homebrew applications on the Wii a much easier process. This application can be launched from the Wii Menu like any other Wii content channel, and displays lists of applications found on connected SD cards and USB drives. Homebrew Channel can also run applications over Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections.
Nintendo Policy
Nintendo policy dictates any Wii console modified to run Homebrew Channel or other homebrew content will have its warranty voided. Anyone considering running homebrew on their Wii should carefully decide if this is an acceptable risk before doing so.
