How to Modify a Wii Console the Right Way

It is possible to install a chip into the Nintendo Wii console that will allow for three times faster loading speeds. This is a delicate process that involves opening the console and attaching a third party chip that interacts with the system upon use. Soldering is a required part of the process, so much care should be taken. However, if correctly performed, this procedure will result in a working modded Wii system.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Use the Philips head screwdriver to remove the battery cover at the side of the system. Remove the black controller port cover to expose a white plastic cover. Use both the Philips and Tri Wing screwdrivers to remove the white cover from the controller port.

    • 2

Remove the stickers to expose the screws on the sides of the face panel and front of the system. Remove these screws to get under the casing of the system. Unscrew the face plate and remove it to expose the system's insides.

    • 3

Remove the screws holding down the metal shield to expose the Wii's optical drive, antennas, cooling fan, and air intake cover. Unscrew and remove the optical drive. Unscrew the silver cover of the drive to expose the chip board.

    • 4

Solder the mod chip next to the two larger black chips on the board. Solder the two larger holes first, followed by the four smaller, then connect the wire legs to the board of the Wii. The mod chip is now in place and ready to function.
