How to Unlock Expert Ghost Staff Data in Time Trials on Mario Kart Wii

"Mario Kart Wii" matches 16 courses from the history of the "Mario Kart" series with 16 brand-new courses exclusively designed for Wii owners. One of the hardest unlockable features in "Mario Kart Wii" is the staff ghosts--transparent racers that race each course according to a route laid down by the game's programmers, posting times only experts could reach. Unlocking these ghosts requires extremely fast racing on all the game's courses.

Instructions

Wii-Specific Tracks

  Start "Time Trial" mode from the main menu of "Mario Kart Wii." Select a character and kart and pick "Mushroom Cup." Pick "Luigi Circuit" as your first Time Trial course.

  Complete three laps of "Luigi Circuit" with a time of 01:25.742 or less to unlock that course's Expert Staff Ghost.

  Unlock Expert Staff Ghosts on the rest of the Mushroom Cup by beating the time of 01.33.571 for Moo Moo Meadows; 02.07.755 for Mushroom Gorge; and 02.15.681 for Toad's Factory.

  Unlock Expert Staff Ghosts for the "Flower Cup" by posting times lower than 01.39.183 for Mario Circuit; 02.24.788 for Coconut Mall; 02.24.725 for DK's Snowboard Cross; and 02.14.932 for Wario's Gold Mine.

  Get Expert Staff Ghosts for the "Star Cup" by beating the times of 01.48.791 for Daisy Circuit; 02.54.897 for Koopa Cape; 02.50.229 on Maple Treeway; and 02.19.524 on Grumble Treeway.

  Unlock the Expert Staff Ghosts for the "Special Cup" by beating 02.21.681 on Dry Dry Ruins; 02.07.016 on Moonview Highway; 02.55.017 on Bowser's Castle; and 02.59.293 on Rainbow Road.
Retro Tracks

  Select "Shell Cup" from the "Course Select" screen. Choose "GCN Peach Beach" and post a time of 01.30.698 or better to unlock the Expert Staff Ghost for that course. Beat 01.12.901 on DS Yoshi Falls to unlock that area's Expert Staff Ghost and 01.03.752 on SNES Ghost Valley 2. The Expert Staff Ghost for N64 Mario Raceway is unlocked by beating the time of 02.07.915.

  Beat the "Banana Cup" and unlock Expert Staff Ghosts by posting times lower than 02.37.784 for N64 Sherbet Land; 01.39.255 for GBA Shy Guy Beach; 02.33.107 for DS Delfino Square; and 02.24.645 for GCN Waluigi Stadium.

  Unlock Expert Staff Ghosts for the "Leaf Cup" with times below 02.01.141 for DS Desert Hills; 02.50.637 for GBA Bowser Castle 3; 02.49.028 for N64 DK's Jungle Parkway; and 01.55.267 for GCN Mario Circuit.

  Finish unlocking Expert Staff Ghosts by beating the "Lightning Cup." Beat the times of 01.34.828 on SNES Mario Circuit 3; 02.29.006 on DS Peach Gardens; 02.50.248 on GCN DK Mountain; and 03.06.723 on N64 Bowser's Castle.

  Return to the Main Menu and reselect "Time Trial" to play against newly-unlocked Expert Staff Ghosts. Ghosts become visible only after returning to the Main Menu, but you don't have to unlock every single one before performing this step.
