Connecting to the Internet
Verify that your wireless router is on or plug the LAN Adapter into the Wii console and connect a Cat5 cable to the console and router.
Power on the Wii and open the Wii Settings menu by clicking the Wii icon in the bottom left corner of the main menu screen.
Scroll to "Internet settings" and select the option. Choose "Connection Settings" and click one of the three connection options.
Follow the on-screen prompts to set up the online connection. Choose Wired or Wireless depending on which Internet connection you're using. Select your wireless router and input the details you have for any security on the router.
Select "Test internet connection" to initiate a test and prompt the system to update itself. If the connection is unsuccessful, see the Nintendo troubleshooting guides in the References section.
Using the Wii Shop Channel
Select the Wii Shop Channel from the main menu.
Click your Wii Points balance to add more funds if necessary. You will need to add funds from your credit card or redeem a Wii Points card.
Look through the WiiWare titles or Virtual Console games until you find a game, channel or piece of software you'd like to download.
Click the "Purchase" button, confirm where you want to download the files to -- either an SD card or the Wii hard drive -- and click "Buy." Pay close attention to the buttons at the bottom; the order is reversed on the last screen. Wait for the download to complete and then return to the main menu.
Find the downloaded game or channel. If you downloaded to an SD card, click the SD card icon. Locate the game and click its icon to start enjoying your new download.
