Opeing the Nintendo Wii
Pull out the power cord and the audio/video connector plug from the Nintendo Wii. Remove the memory card from the memory card slot, if one is there. Remove the sensor bar's plug from the connector on the Wii.
Open the controller port door. Push it up and inward until it loosens from the Wii. Remove the controller port door. Remove the memory card doors in the same manner as was used for the controller port doors. Put aside the controller port door and the memory card doors.
Put down some newspaper on a work surface. Put the Nintendo Wii upside-down on the newspaper. Use a utility knife to pull off the two rubber feet. Pull off the two paper feet using the utility knife. Use the Torx screwdriver to remove the screws that were hidden under the feet.
Turn the Wii right-side up on the newspaper. Remove the plastic and the paper foot from the side of the Wii with the utility knife. Unscrew the screws beneath the plastic and paper feet with the Phillips screwdriver.
Use the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver to unscrew the battery compartment. Remove the battery compartment lid and take out the battery. Put aside the lid and the battery. Use the Torx screwdriver to remove the screw from inside of the battery compartment.
Position the Wii with the controller ports facing you. Remove the black screws using the Phillips screwdriver in this order: first the one at the upper left, then the one in the middle and finally the one at the upper right. Pull off the controller port faceplate and put it down in front of the Wii. Remove the connector cable on the faceplate by pulling it straight off. Put the faceplate aside.
Pull out the black controller port cover. Use the Torx screwdriver to remove the two screws that were hidden by the black controller port cover. Hold the top of the Wii with both hands and pull upward to dislodge the outer case. Remove the outer case and put it aside.
Remove the screws from around the DVD drive using the Phillips screwdriver. Lift the DVD drive up and remove the power plug from its back by pulling it straight out. Remove the ribbon cable from the DVD drive that is attached to the Wii's circuit board by pulling it straight out. Put the DVD drive down by the Wii.
Attaching The Optical Mod Circuit Board
Place the optical mod circuit board next to the Wii. Attach the ribbon cable from the optical mod circuit board to the connector on the Wii that was previously taken by the DVD drive's ribbon cable. Plug the power cord from the Nintendo Wii's circuit board that was previously plugged into the DVD drive into the power receptacle on the optical mod circuit board.
Plug the power cord from the optical mod circuit board into the power receptacle on the DVD drive. Attach the ribbon cable from the DVD drive to the connector on the optical mod circuit board.
Plug the Wii's power cord into the Wii. Reattach the audio/video connector plug to the Wii. Put the memory card back into the Wii's memory slot if one was taken out.
Put a TV set down by the Wii. Attach the audio and video connectors from the Wii's audio/video connector plug to the TV. Turn on the TV. Turn on the Wii and wait for the Home menu to appear on the TV screen.
Insert a backup game disc into the DVD drive or attach a USB thumb drive or USB external drive to one of the USB ports on the back of the Wii. Wait for the game disc or USB thumb drive or USB external drive to appear as an icon on the Home menu. Select the game disc or USB thumb drive or USB external drive and launch the backup game that you can now play on the Wii because it has been modded.
