How to Increase Wii Storage

Out of the box, the Nintendo Wii only comes with 512MB of internal memory. This is a decent amount of memory for game saves, but if you want to add additional content to your Wii (such as Wii Channels and downloadable content), you will need to get SD or SDHC cards. These are small memory devices commonly used to increase the storage capacity of portable devices such as cameras or cell phones. The same can be done for the Nintendo Wii.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn the Nintendo Wii off.

    • 2

Find the SD card slot located on the front of the Nintendo Wii.

    • 3

Open the SD card slot and insert a SD or SDHC card. The label of the card must face the disc compartment. Press it in until it "clicks."

    • 4

Turn the Wii on and wait for the channel menu to load.

    • 5

Select "Settings" at the bottom of the channel menu, then "Data Management" and "Channels." Here you will find the amount of available space (or blocks) your Nintendo Wii has with the addition of the new card.
