Wii Remote
The Wii Remote is a two-part controller held in both hands. Players swing the controller in front of the screen while holding down on the buttons. The Wii remote uses accelerometers and optical sensors to imitate the motion on the screen.
Games
The Wii use full-size game CDs for its games. Along with third-party games and its own Mario and Zelda games, the Wii's most popular games have been "Wii Play," "Wii Sports" and other games where players use the remote to simulate real sports action to play the games on screen.
Virtual Console
The Virtual Console lets players download emulations of games from Nintendo's older console systems. Gamers must purchase Wii Points, which are then redeemed for games from the original NES, Super NES, N64 and others.
Other Controllers
The Wii provides multiple types of other controllers. There is the Classic Controller (mainly for Virtual Console games), the Wii Zapper for shooting games, a steering wheel for driving games and a set of gloves for boxing games.
Compatibility
The Wii will play GameCube games, but you must connect a GameCube controller to the console. The Wii will also connect to the portable Nintendo DS through a wireless connection.
